This text is inspired by a dialog written by Joseph Michael Straczynski for Babylon5 where the doctor and G'Kar discuss why God (Whoever might be meant by this word) makes it so hard for us sentient beeings. The doctor comes up with the classical theological question: Can God create a stone so heavy, even he can't lift it? So maybe this is evening the odds ... even 'he' has his limits ;-)
Evening the Odds
And sometimes I wonder
Can god create a symphony
So beautiful and complex,
Even he couldn’t play it
And maybe, this is, why we may
Why are we facing
The unsolvable problems
The unbearable guilt
The never understandable
Why are we facing
The unloving others
The missing fathers
And missing mothers
Sometimes I wonder
Can god create a riddle
So vast, so complex
Even he can’t solve it –
And maybe – that’s us
Evening the odds
So it all must play through
All permutations
All ways wandered
All tears shed
All stories echo
In us
How can we live
With a future unexpectable
Converging to death
Through fights we can not hope to win
How can we solve
The everlasting question
The unanswered needs
And the missing reasons
Sometimes I wonder
Can god create a creature
So hating, so destructive
Even his love fails to heal –
And maybe – that’s us
Evening the odds
Sometimes I wonder
can god create a riddle
So vast, so complex
Even he can’t solve it –
And maybe – that’s us
Evening the odds
And sometimes I wonder
Can god create a symphony
So beautiful and complex,
Even he couldn’t play it
And maybe, this is, why we may

P.S.:
Maybe he isn’t just almighty
Maybe this is evening the odds
why should he have it easy
while we carry on the lot
